The Pudding Club team on tour in Japan have taken Osaka by storm. It is now official that the Japanese have fallen in love with our great Traditional British Puds !
The Pudding Club shop at the British Fair at the Hankyu store in Osaka has sold out of puddings on 5 out of the 7 days.
The favourite pudding during the fair was Squidgy Chocolate made by Pudding Club Chef Tom Timms, a close second was Ginger Syrup Pudding.
The second Pudding Club meeting to be held in Osaka was a great success with 50 guests attending the meeting at the New Hankyu Hotel on Friday evening. The guests enjoyed a light fish appetizer before experiencing the traditional parade of puddings, for the first time orchestrated to light and sound. Five puddings were enjoyed, with many people having 6 or 7 portions.
The champion pudding of the night was Summer Pudding, with Eton Mess and Squidgy Chocolate close runners up.
Yet again the Pudding Club leaves it home in Mickleton and heads of to the Far East. Simon Coombe Chief Taster, his wife Jill and Chef Tom Timms will be visiting Tokyo and Osaka in Japan to demonstrate traditional British Puddings to visitors during British Week at the Hankyu Department Store.
The Pudding Club has airfreighted over 2000 individual puddings to Japan and Chef Tom Timms will be making a further 2000 puddings in a demonstration kitchen allowing Japanese visitors to learn the secret of British Puddings.
The highlight of the week long promotion will be a Pudding Club Meeting at The New Hankyu Hotel in Osaka.
Simon and Jill will also be hosting a vip Pudding Tea at the British Embassy in Tokyo for the Minster, his wife and guests.
On August 23rd 2008 James Hargreaves set the new record for the most number of portions of pudding eaten at one Pudding Club Meeting. 23 Portions can you believe it! Craig Mathews Pudding Club host on the evening was astounded, but seeing them pictured together you can understand why it was so easy for James, he towers above Craig at a mighty 6 feet 4 inches.
Rumour has it that James has been in training this Summer and will return to attempt a new record in December. Watch this space
The Chairman of the Pudding Club Peter Henderson was swamped by telephone calls from the press and national radio when Flintshire County Council decided that it could no longer refer to Spotted Dick by its true name! In their great wisdom they decided that it should be referred to as Spotted Richard.
