A Case Study

Sarah Abbott joined our kitchen team in July 2005 starting as a Kitchen Apprentice and enrolled on the Professional Cookery Apprenticeship at Stratford Business Services.

During her three year apprenticeship, not only has Sarah become an invaluable team player in the kitchen, she reached the finals of the South West Tourism Young Chef of the Year competition on two occasions and this year won an award for Excellence in Catering at Stratford College.

For most people this would be sufficient, but not for 20 year old Sarah, in July 2008 she was voted runner up (out of 1,000 entries) in the Apprentice of the Year category at the National Apprentice Awards held in London.

Sarah’s comments - “ My apprenticeship has made me a stronger and more determined person. It has helped transform my passion for food into the skills I need to become a competent chef as well as reinforcing my commitment to carving out a career in this industry. The hotel has given me the opportunity, time and support to complete my studies to a high standard.”
